Not the ideal solution though probably. There's no end-user Windows setting that enables this, but you can get this functionality (and more) with a cheap third party app called Start8 ($5). Turning this option off fixes this most annoying behaviour. VG ^^ That trick used to work in Developer Preview build of Windows 8. They were back the next morning when I turned my HP laptop on (using Windows 8.1) I went to walmart and purchased a $16 wireless mouse. same issue here and I also find it unbelievable the last answer from a Microsoft representative on this issue was a year ago... Windows key + c does the same thing however, on the same screen your mouse currently has focus so I find the shortcut keys better. My Sidebar Disappeared Mac click apply.

This time, taskkill -im explorer.exe -f helped to get rid of the date time charm that is in the lower left portion of the screen (which still painted like it was Intermittently and very occasionally, although I notice it occurs sometimes a metro app has been opened. Might require a reboot.
